You can install this wave next to your skybox and surf at any altitude up to about 4095 meters. Since Second Life physics does not work off-sim, I had to write my own physics into the scripts! But this means that my surf physics will work anywhere, not just at “Linden Water” level. Installing an Off-Sim Wave next to a Skybox: To try out this and other off-sim items, find links to my stores at If you just want to casually surf off your own beach, and you have Void Sea shore-front property, this Off-Sim wave will make that possible. But to use that on your own property, you need to give up thousands of square meters of land to water. If you are serious about competitive surfing on a fast board, go buy a vehicle-based surf board. To work off-sim they must use a hybrid-physical-non-physical movement that is sometimes jerky. The surfboards that work on this off-sim wave are not high-performance. The excellent vehicle-based surfboards made by others in SL will not work on an Off-Sim wave. HOWEVER, there is a price to pay for this. The prim count is still only a low 4 prims!ĭon't give up valuable land to make water to surf in! Surf Off-Sim! This is all done with the new prim size limits, so no mega-prims are used in the construction of this wave. This wave has a dialog to change its size to up to 64 meters wide and 16 meters tall. A notepad configuration is also available for custom wave placement. The wave will combine off-sim and on-sim water if available to make surfing rides longer. This wave is easier to install than any other Second Life wave! Drop it on the shore and it surveys your land and water, choosing a configuration to work well in most locations. For example, the WaveRider Off-Sim Buoy will float up and over this wave as it passes. But that's not all: you can also surf on this wave! (You must purchase a compatible Ocean Engineering surf kayak, surfboard, body surf or other “off-sim vehicle”). (Ocean Engineering “Sky Water” is recommended at altitude for best performance). This wave will work at water level or up next to your skybox. Multiple sound sources makes for a thundering-crashing sound when the wave hits the beach. The wave uses physical vehicle motion to move smoothly. The visible wave is a single prim with multiple animated sculpts that curl over to make a “tube” before it breaks. Unlike most static extenders, this wave will rise up far from shore, smoothly approach, crash onto your land, and start over. Like any other off-sim sim extender in Second life, this wave allows people with shore-front property to place an object off the edge of the sim in the “Void Sea”.
